READ ANY GOOD BOOKS? ---By Socks

"Thousands of years ago
cats were worshipped as gods.
We have never forgotten this."

Our mom likes to read and sometimes she even reads to us.

Recently she read a book called "The Enchanted Cat" by Ellen Dugan. It's about mischievous, mystical, magickal cats! Hey! That would be us!

The book tells about how cats have been revered throughout history and what part they (we've!) played in the lives of entire civilizations and, at times, even considered sacred!

Did you know that a domestic cat's top speed is thirty-one miles per hour! I've never attained that speed, but then again, I've never had to.

Cats have had very important places in history. Unfortunately we've also been the target of hateful, stupid people and we won't go into that aspect of our past.

Did you know that the term "tabby" cat actually comes from the Spanish word tabi which
describes a popular water-striped silk from the East? And, that most of the world's cats are tabbies, with that M on their foreheads and the banded fur pattern. That M is a genetic trait passed on from generations of earlier cats. So, this cat, with the stripes resembled the markings of that water-striped silk and came to be called the tabby. I myself am a "Tuxedo" cat with my white and black fur suit.

All of us here at Tabby Abbey realize how fortunate we've been to find our way here and that mom has taken us in and given us a good home and we lack for nothing. (Well, maybe more tuna fish!)

A quote from the book that we especially liked goes: "People who hate cats will come back as mice in their next life." Faith Resnick
